2023 International Conference on Remote Sensing, Mapping and Geographic Information Systems (RSMG2023) was successfully held in Kaifeng, China on July 7-9, 2023. The conference is hosted by Henan University and Henan Academy of Sciences, and organized by The College of Geography and Environmental Science, Henan University, Center for Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development, Henan University, and Academic Development Department, Zhengzhou Campus, Henan University. This conference focuses on the latest research of "Remote Sensing”, “Mapping” and “Geographic Information Systems”, to build a platform for domestic and foreign experts, scholars, scientists and other relevant personnel engaged in related fields to exchange and share the latest research results, in order to achieve the purpose of mutual promotion and common improvement. At the same time, the key challenges and research directions in this field are discussed in order to promote the development and application of theories and technologies in this field.

Prof. MingzhouQin , School of Geography and Environment, Henan University, presided over the opening ceremony. ShaokangXu , Vice President of Henan University, was invited to deliver the opening speech, and MengWu , Director of Talent Work Bureau of Zhongyuan Science and Technology City, Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Milan Konecny, Masaryk University, Czech Republic, was invited to deliver the speech.

The conference invited Academician Renzhong Guo of Shenzhen University, Academician JiayaoWang of Henan University, Academician  Qiangzi Li of the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. LiangpeiZhang of Wuhan University, Prof.  Chunmin Zhang of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Prof. Bisheng Yang of Wuhan University, Researcher JinweiDong of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Feiyue Mao of Wuhan University, Prof. ChunmeiWang of Northwest University, Researcher Hongbo Ling of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Yansheng of Wuhan University, Prof. Yongwei Sheng  from the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as Prof. MingzhouQin, Prof. Yaoping Cui and Prof. Guanpeng Dong from Henan University made wonderful keynote speeches, and the conference attracted more than 200 people including teachers and students from universities at home and abroad, and representatives of local experts.

A total of 36 young scholars from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tongji University, China University of Petroleum, Northwest University, Chengdu University of Technology, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, College of Disaster Prevention Science and Technology, and Henan University gave oral presentations on topics such as "Improving the Estimation of Farmland Surface Soil Moisture: An Improved Method for Combining WCM and CNN" and "Improving the Hyperspectral Image Feature Selection Method of Swarm Intelligence Algorithm". The participating experts discussed the above topics and put forward their opinions and suggestions.

During the conference, experts and scholars engaged in lively discussions, actively sharing and discussing the latest research findings in the field, creating a new academic ecosystem of 'open communication and shared achievements.' As they shared cutting-edge research outcomes and technological trends, the experts and scholars not only established broader collaborative relationships but also laid a solid foundation for future interdisciplinary exchanges and cooperation. This has further enhanced the internationalization of our institution's education and the level of discipline construction.
